High School Senior Scholarship for
Hackensack Residents

The Garden Club of Hackensack High School Senior Scholarship was established to support a deserving Hackensack resident who plans to pursue studies in horticulture, environmental science, or a closely related field at a two- or four-year college or university.

This $500 scholarship reflects our club’s commitment to supporting the next generation of environmental stewards and sustainability leaders. Recipients will be selected based on academic performance, character, demonstrated passion for the environment, and future goals.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a graduating high school senior residing in Hackensack

• Must be accepted to or enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university

• Must plan to major in horticulture, environmental studies, or a related discipline

• Scholarship payment will be made upon proof of enrollment

Application Requirements:

• At least one college or university acceptance letter

• A copy of your official high school transcript

• A list of extracurricular activities, school honors, awards, and community involvement

• A personal essay on the topic provided in the application

• Three references from high school teachers, counselors, employers, or activity directors

Evaluation Criteria:

• Academic performance

• Character and leadership

• Demonstrated interest and intent to pursue a career in environmental or horticultural fields

Essay
Describe how your interest in horticulture and environmental studies began and how these experiences have influenced your goals for the future. Also, describe your extracurricular activities related to horticulture, environmental science, and conservation. This may include, but is not limited to:

• Membership in clubs such as the Environmental Club or Green Team

• Scouting participation, including relevant merit badges or awards

• Volunteering with community gardens, environmental organizations, or local conservation efforts

• Hobbies such as gardening, composting, or sustainability initiatives
